Synopsis

Griffin Scott, the curious 12 year old from Los Feliz, meets Desiree Ellsworth, the wheel chair bound aging beauty who lives in the mysterious Ellsworth Estate, near his house. His Father, Detective Edward Scott, World War II vet and former beat cop, is investigating local crimes. Griffin and his loyal friend Weston Wainright, a private school geek, equally curious, but much more clever, are exploring the nearby Los Feliz hills, after being chased by some school bullies, when they meet a strange girl, who rescues them by hiding them in her lair, a storm drain on the dry LA River. Catherine “Cat” Mendoza is a Catholic School girl who leads a double life. This is drought stricken Southern California. The time is 1956, the day after the Wizard of Oz made its television debut introducing Dorothy, Toto, Glinda and the terrifying flying monkey army of the Wicked Witch of the West. The adventures of this new trio begin as Griffin befriends Desiree only to learn her glorious Hollywood past, the eclectic and deceased husband and their dark secret that lies below.

Our Story Begins

"Griffin and the Dark Secret" is a story about a boy who is fascinated with movies and special effects. Set in the Hollywood Hills in 1956, He discovers that sometimes what you see in the movies is real when he uncovers the Dark Secret of Desiree Ellsworth, keeper of the real flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz. Griffin is thrown into the middle of a great controversy as he enlists his best friend Weston and new friend Cat to help him save his neighborhood of Los Feliz, from certain catastrophe and rescue the very creatures he just discovered.
